Portico Quartet

- UK finest Post Jazz

Portico Quartet have been together as a band since May 2005. Their first gig on the scene was at Healer Seelcta's Raison D'Etre Showcase at Jazz Cafe after the infamous Raison D'Etre audition. Comprised of
Nick Mulvey, Milo Fitzpatrick, Jack Wyllie and Duncan  Bellamy, their sound combines elements of jazz with minimalism to produce an entirely fresh and vital music.

With rich layers of woven melody giving colour to close interlocking rhythmic textures, theirs is a music both accessible to all yet like no other.

Central to their sound is very new instrument called the 'Hang'. Similar
to the steel pan yet softer and more ethereal in tone, this instrument was
invented about 4 years ago in Berne, Switzerland by two people, together
called Panart. It takes the principles of tuned metal behind the steel pan
and combines them with ideas from the Indonesian gamelan and the Indian
urdu to create a 'wok' shaped instrument with nine different tones.
Portico use two Hangs that play densely interlocking patterns beneath
which the double bass offers further harmonic scope and above which the
soprano sax provides melodic focus and colour. At times they combine to
mesmeric and soothing atmospheric effect and other times itâ?Ts the
organic techno you've always longed for!

" I never heard something like that before, Fantastic  Organic  Rockin' Techno Funk- Jazz ?? is that pionneering of a new genre ???" Love it !! Raison D'Etre Coup de Coeur.
